This year, a total of 8,60,976 applicants applied for the UGC NET exam, with 5,26,707 of them taking the test. There were 156882 candidates in the general category, 47161 in the EWS category, and 192434 in the OBC-NCL category. There were 88914, 33811, and 7505 candidates in the SC, ST, and PwD categories, respectively.

The provisional answer key was released on November 17 and the final answer key was released on November 30. Previously, the NTA would announce the UGC-NET results four to five days after the final answer key was released, but this year, the agency announced the results one day after the final keys were released.

The NTA UGC NET test was originally set for June but had to be postponed due to the Coronavirus outbreak. After that, the exam was rescheduled until September. The UGC-NET was held on September 24, 25, 29, 30, October 1, 9, 7, and November 4,5,11, 12, and 13 this year.

Previously, the exam lasted three to four days, but this year it lasted 12 days and lasted more than a month. This was done to reduce the number of people queuing for exams during the pandemic.

To avoid the transmission of Coronavirus, the inspection was carried out according to stringent standards and social distancing rules.

At the centre, candidates were given face masks and allowed to bring their own hand sanitizer in a 50 mL clear bottle. On the day of the exam, candidates were also required to fill out and bring a self-declaration undertaking form.
