Mushrooms: Strong effect against viruses

Sars-Cov2 is currently showing us every day how difficult it is to fight viruses. Nevertheless, we humans are not helpless in the face of the tiny attackers.

Immune systems that are strengthened in good time and permanently take a lot of the fear out of viruses. If there is a risk of illness from viruses, magic mushrooms should be on the table. They support and activate the immune system and help with the formation of antibodies.

The realization that viruses are difficult to combat is not new. HIV/AIDS, influenza, hepatitis, herpes - the list of viral diseases that pose great challenges to physicians is long. Even against the common cold there is no effective remedy apart from symptom relief, because antibiotics, otherwise the miracle cure for infections, only help with bacterial diseases.

The "safe" effect of the magic mushrooms means that although they strengthen the immune system , they always have an immunomodulating effect, i.e. they slow down excessive immune systems that turn against your own body. Magic mushrooms are therefore also an excellent remedy for people suffering from autoimmune diseases such as MS, scleroderma or psoriasisStabilization of the immune system .

How do they do it? Their ingredients attack from two sides: on the one hand, they stimulate the immune system and, on the other hand, they attack the viruses themselves, prevent them from multiplying and slow down the progression of the infections they trigger. Substances such as beta-glucans, a fungus-specific group of polysaccharides, are responsible for activating the immune system.

They support and activate the body's entire defense system, from the scavenger cells, the macrophages to the messenger substances, the interleukins, to the T helper cells and the killer cells. They stimulate the production of T-lymphocytes, a group of white blood cells that act as sentinels throughout the body, and they help regenerate the bone marrow cells, where many of the body's antibodies are made.

At the same time, active ingredients such as lentinan from the shiitake mushroom prevent the virus from attaching itself to the host cells, which makes infection possible in the first place. If this has nevertheless happened, they suppress the copying of the genetic material of the virus and thus its replication in the host cells. The infection is stopped.

The first findings in this regard date back to 1966 , when scientists discovered that magic mushrooms fight influenza viruses. Several Japanese studies in the 1970s confirmed that extracts from the shiitake mushroom prevent influenza diseasesand get treated. In the 1980s, scientists' focus shifted to the HIV/AIDS virus.

Tochikura, Nakashima, and Yamamoto of Yamaguchi University discovered that LEM, an extract on the mycelium of the shiitake mushroom, stopped cell-to-cell infection by 85.9-96.9%, while the AIDS drug Retrovir did manages only by 2.8-10.2%. Y. Kaneko later found that LEM and Retrovir together inhibited HIV 5 to 24 times more potently than Retrovir alone, depending on the virus strain.

Of course, there is no corresponding knowledge about Sars-Cov-2 viruses yet. The time is too short for that. But the mechanisms by which fungi work against viruses are always the same. It can be expected that they can suppress corona viruses in the same way. It is therefore worth eating more magic mushrooms right now - as a tasty and healthy preventive measure and as a supplement to the corona vaccination.
