The first known monument to the work of a baker was erected in ancient Rome in the middle of the I century BC – a mausoleum was built for the baker Mark Virgil Eurysacus after his death. Mark Virgil founded his bakery in 173 BC and quickly became a leader in the production of bread, supplying almost the entire capital with it.
