How is a plug valve used?

· Although it is less common, plug valves can be used to regulate the flow to some extent by partially opening or closing the valve. However, they are mainly designed for full on/off control rather than changing the precise flow.

What is the difference between Ball Valves and Plug Valves?
The main difference between plug valves and ball valves is their design, operation, and basic applications:
· Design: Plug valves uses a cylindrical or conically tapered plug with a hollow passage through it. The plug rotates within the valve body to control flow. The flow path is typically straight through the plug when the valve is open. Ball Valves on the other hand use a spherical ball with a hole through its center. The ball rotates within the valve body to control flow. When the hole aligns with the inlet and outlet ports, fluid flows through; rotating the ball by 90 degrees blocks the flow.
· Operation: Plug valve are operated by rotating the plug 90 degrees. They are known for their simple and robust design and can be used for quick shutoff applications. Ball Valves are also operated by rotating the ball 90 degrees. Ball valves provide excellent sealing and are widely used for their ability to open and close quickly and reliably.
· Applications: Plug Valves are suitable for applications requiring frequent operation, such as in chemical processing, oil and gas, and water treatment. They are versatile and can handle fluids with suspended solids.
